Starting to Sink In

Well, it's been a while since I've updated you all on my journey to studying abroad. I've officially gotten my acceptance letter to the University of Limerick in Ireland and have begun my preparations to travel overseas. I took care of my passport last Wednesday. I'm hoping that it will be in my hands by the end of December.

After I recieved my acceptance letter, I immediately began trying to find scholarships to help with the cost of airfare, housing and tuition. The financial aid department at my school was able to offer me a scholarship for $1,400 to help ease my burden. This really helped out a lot, because my airfare alone was almost $800. I've been having a hard time trying to wrap my head around all of the various expenses related to studying abroad, and I still am not sure how it will work out. I'm sure it will though.

I get more scared every day. I'm apprehensive as to how this is going to work itself out. I've never been this far away from home with no parental support to guide me. That's the scary part. I'm excited to actually experience the country and the education. It's more expensive than I thought it would be initally, but I guess that's to be expected.

What's ahead of me is just securing a place to live and money to eat over there. I guess I'll have to go through my study abroad coordinator to answer the questions I have. I guess I'll have to just roll with the punches, as cliche as it sounds. Good thing I bouncce back well. It's been proven.

If anyone else is going through this process and either has questions or advice for me, I'd love to hear from you. Well, next time, I'll try to update everyone (the one person who actually reads this) on any extra paperwork I have to fill out. Eventually I'll put up my packing list. And once I'm there for a little while, I'm gonna post some things every American student should know about studying abroad in the United Kingdom. Who knows? I may even write a memoir of my experiences....

Yeah, right. I can barely update this blog on a consistent basis.

As always,
Brooke
